Gospel – November 12, 2019 – Luke 17:7-10

Jesus said to the Apostles:
“Who among you would say to your servant
who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field,
‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’?
Would he not rather say to him,
‘Prepare something for me to eat.
Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink.
You may eat and drink when I am finished’?
Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?
So should it be with you.
When you have done all you have been commanded, say,
‘We are unprofitable servants;
we have done what we were obliged to do.'”

Sometimes, I get to feeling a bit prideful. I work very hard to be as helpful as I can (as I think I can) and I sit back and feel satisfied. I think of all that hard work, the time, the effort, the emotional cost – all the things we put into a task. With me it is quite often something Spiritual because God blessed me with the opportunity to serve others – AS MY JOB. I love my job and I thank God everyday that I get to do what I do.

But I can get caught up thinking I’ve done enough just like anyone else in any other type of job.

Today Jesus tells us to stop feeling special because we’ve done good works and not be too proud. Because we are meant to do everything we can. We aren’t meant to try to store up works. We are meant to go into the mission fields and give everything we have to others to help them and to sustain them.

Today is a good reminder that I can always do more and He expects more.

Praying for all today.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
