Gospel – February 28, 2020 – Matthew 9:14-15

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.”

I love this contrast of images today. The question by good men – John the Baptist’s own disciples – of why aren’t your men obeying the Law.

And Jesus says, basically, you don’t fast at a wedding feast. You can fast when it’s over.

Jesus knows his apostles will fast when he’s no longer with them. But while he’s there? Nope, we gonna celebrate.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
