Gospel – 5/17/20 – John 14:15-21
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,
because it neither sees nor knows him.
But you know him, because he remains with you,
and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me,
but you will see me, because I live and you will live.
On that day you will realize that I am in my Father
and you are in me and I in you.
Whoever has my commandments and observes them
is the one who loves me.
And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father,
and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
We are living, today, in a world that takes things, known for eons, and tries to make them myths.
We are shamed and belittled, by elitists, and made to doubt and question something revealed to us, chosen by God.
Jesus said that not everyone would know the One sent by the Father to be with us when Jesus ascended. The Spirit of Truth was intended for any who would accept Him, but not everyone chooses to recognize that Spirit. But, we do. That is the longing to be better, to understand, to be that light placed on the nightstand that draws others.
Sometimes we don’t realize how good we are – can be. I know you’re there – I’ve met some of you – and you have touched my life, made me better. You may not know it – but you know Him.
We are not orphans. We are loved – maybe not by the World – but by Jesus, and thus by the Father.
Love Him – obey His commands – and let the World choose its own path.
