Gospel – 6/15/20 – Matthew 5:38-42
Jesus said to his disciples:
“You have heard that it was said,
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.
When someone strikes you on your right cheek,
turn the other one to him as well.
If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,
hand him your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile,
go with him for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you,
and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”
How do I become a follower of Christ?
By leaving behind what the World has taught me. How does a Hindu understand my Savior better than me?
We have to learn to think and respond morally, like Christ. It’s so hard to think that I not respond to evil with evil – but that’s what we’re called to do.
It’s hard to think if someone accuses you of something – even if you are totally innocent – you keep silent – but that’s what we’re called to do.
And if someone should require something of you – you give them twice even if you are wronged – but it’s what we are required to do.
It’s not easy to follow Christ.
At least that’s what I heard Him say…
