Gospel – 6/18/20 – Matthew 6:7-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
“In praying, do not babble like the pagans,
who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This is how you are to pray:

‘Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.’

“If you forgive others their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

When it comes to conversation, I believe I would be considered a minimalist. I don’t like long phone calls, long books, long visits or long meetings.

I believe, if we can get our point across in a few words, do it. Then you don’t lose me and others like me.

Television preachers always seem to be in competition. Which one can say pretty phrases, use more difficult words or show the most emotion in a prayer that they lose most of those hearing. I am not saying they’re bad – just not good listeners themselves.

Today Jesus tells us – use fewer words and make a greater impact.

It’s not about me – what I know, how well I speak, how long I talk – it’s what the people take from it.

It’s not about me, but for me.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
