God Sees Good, Even In The Tragedy

Gospel – 6/8/20 – Matthew 5:1-12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.
Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Do we even realize what God has given us? In the world he created with such beauty, space with all its expanse, the sea with all its wonders and the Son with all His Grace.

Think of the colors of the rainbows, think of the stark beauty of the poles covered in ice, think of wonders that have been created.

But in thinking of all this beauty, don’t forget the poor in the streets of India and the love shared by Mother Theresa of Calcutta and her ministers. Don’t forget those living in such poverty around the world.

God gives us all the beauty and then he gives us the poor. The poor to remind us to look at the beauty and realize it is mirrored in the souls of the poor, the sick, the handicapped and those suffering mental disease.

In everything there is a blessing. That’s what Jesus is reminding us today. Not to avoid – but to embrace.

In every tragedy we can find good.

At least that’s what I heard Him say…
